Anecdotes, Experiences, Opinions, Comments

  • Elena Falcone: The lack of voice recording ability is a real miss, as is the relatively slow web browser.  Despite these shortcomings, I remain amazed at how much it does, the great programs that have been designed for it, how lost I am without it, and the structural durability.
  • Michael Orr:  Bluetooth support on this phone is mediocre, at best; Range is small (in some cases Headset better be on same side of body), and most advanced features either work only with some headsets, or not at all. For example, even with Treo-Branded Headset some advanced features do not
work, like voice-dialing, while they work fine with same headset and a 5-year old Nokia phone
  • tcblack: The phone has, over the last two years I’ve owned it been incurably buggy and prone to random and fairly constant reboots.  I have punched in #*377 (the code for displaying the reason for the last reboot) so often that I can do it without looking.
  • Davemill: I’ve had this for three years, since it first came out. The fact that it is still a current product at Sprint and elsewhere is an indication of how good the design and implementation are. I use it daily with Outlook (with the included software-no third party product). The synchronization with Outlook’s Contacts and Calendar are flawless. I also appreciate that the log contains every incoming and outgoing call since I bought it-wow! The battery is still going strong after three years.
  • Tessa H:  I have had issues with the Bluetooth as well.  I have unlocked my Treo 650 to use with my T-Mobile service and haven’t found any features lacking due to this as I have seen in other unlocked phones.  Despite the little things this phone lacks, it is still one of the most reliable PDA phones that I have used yet - much preferred over my recent Blackberry.  The camera is great, there’s expandable memory and long battery life.

Interesting Askville Questions:
If I buy a verizon treo 650 on ebay and the I get it activated, will they require that i get a data plan or could I just get away with a regular phone plan. I realize that if I don't get a data plan I can't use the web browser. But I am only wanting to use the other pda part of it and do with the web browser. I know that when you buy a new phone and a new plan they require you to choose a data plan but I thought maybe I could do without it if I have a used phone. I don't know about you but for me 46 dollars a month for data plus a cell phone plan on top of that is just to expensive for me.
I am trying to go into the mobile phone business
I have a Treo 650 on Sprint and wonder whether the faster network is worth it.
