I just heard that Clinton would lose against any of the top Republicans but Obama would win - yet he is trailing... (5 answers)

Barack Obama is trailing in the polls behind Hilary for Democratic nominee. However, I just read that Obama is favored against any republican nominee whereas Clinton would lose against any top republican candidate. Should Democrats vote based on who they think will win in general election or should they vote based on their opinion of the two candidates (which currently would be Hilary Clinton).
