How does digital get to amplifier from a digial cable box. Amp only has digital in (dvd) and optical in (cd)connections? (1 answer)

I have a motorola digital cable box that simply has a (analog)audio and vidio connection no hdmi or coaxial digital connections. All I get on amplifier is analog. I did plug in a coaxical digital cable from dvd to amp and it shows digital on amp but still no surround sound.

I have a crate guitar amp and it can pack some serious sound. However, i stopped playing the guitar baout 2 years ago and i would like to somehow use the ability of this amp to somehow play sound. I was wondering, is there anyway to hook up an amp to a steroe or some sort of music playing device so that it utilizes the amp sort of like a speaker. How would i go about doing this?
