Philips DVP5960 DVD Player with HDMI, 1080i Upscaling, DivX Ultra, USB direct

The Philips DVP5960 DVD Player has many features and an inexpensive price. A USB port on the front and DivX/Xivd support allows the playback of video and MP3s from your computer, although you can also play such video that has been burned to data DVDs. Upscaling of the HDMI video output to 1080i allows those with HDTVs to take advantage their high resolution.

Interesting Askville Questions:
My old DVD player has died and I need to replace it. My TV has a HDMI outlet, but my system other than the TV is old. I am a student and can't afford expensive equipment now. I want to get a good player, but do not want to by anything extra to accommodate it. I am looking at either "Sony DVP-NS57P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player" or "Philips DVP5960 DVD Player with HDMI, 1080i Upscaling, DivX Ultra, USB direct" both now under $60. Can anyone help?
The receiver does not have HDMI. Should I connect optical out on TV to optical in on receiver or optical out on DVD player to optical in on receiver. Which would be better? I am looking for best sound quality possible. TV is Samsung DLP HL-S6187W with 1080p, receiver Denon AVR 3803, and DVD player LG DN788 with upconverting to 1080i.
When I recently went to watch a DVD that I ordered, it did not work nor load onto my DVD player. I know it is not the DVD player as I had just finished watching a DVD. I also tried another DVD and it worked without a problem. Is there a contact number for Returns or Customer service.
