PDA

PDA is an acronym for Personal Digital Assistant.

A PDA is characterized by a palmtop computer with ability to store your address book, appointments and todo list in digital format (basically an electronic Rolodex)

A personal digital assistant (PDA) is a mobile device, also known as a palmtop computer. Newer PDAs commonly have color screens and audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones (smartphones), web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWANs). Many PDAs employ touchscreen technology.

The PDA is now increasingly being challenged by smart phones that increasingly has all the functionalities of a PDA since they have all the software functionality such as address books, appointments and even more in addition to phone functionalities. The lines between a PDA and phone is blurry nowadays. iPhone is a cross between a phone, a PDA and a smartphone and can perform many functions including Games, Facebook login, , calculator, GPS, Maps, songs,Facebook Mobile blog, video, etc

Interesting Askville Questions:
What is the meaning to BETA? Is it an acronym or something?
Hello everyone, while I am not of the "I can blow $600.00 on an iphone" variety person, I am looking for a good pda which can play mp3's and perhaps ( I know this might be pushing it) have fm radio. I'm a college instructor and I need a pda. I was looking at the Z22's from Palm, but no music there ( I like to pretend I'm working in faculty meetings while listening to my favorite music) and the E2 looks okay, but I'm waiting for the "miracle" everything but a phone pda (mostly due to price). Any suggestions?
I am looking for a good PDA. I don't want a "crackberry" or half phone half pda. I need one for contact lists, notes, etc. Does not have to be on the very high end ...but no cheapo either. Thanks
