Is the concept of "a divine spark" in human beings supported by any Scripture passages? (1 answer)

This concept is frequently mentioned in metaphysical books, and is also known as "the higher self". These books advocate the gradual disciplining of a person so that this higher self will be in control, instead of the so-called "lower self" or personality, or ego, which is the seat of the lower passions. This sounds analogous to the Christian idea of "the flesh" having to be subdued, although, in Christianity, it is Christ Himself who must be in control of the individual's life, and not that individual's higher self. I'd still like to know whether any Bible passages support the idea of a divine spark, though. Thanks, and many blessings to all!!

Not on askville, but in the real world!! say you become friendly with someone and during a group conversation your new friends makes a comment about something poltical that goes totally against what you believe in. After finding out their poltical views can you still remain a friend to that person? if so, how do you go through life watching every word you say not to ruin the relationship? If not, what do you say to get out of the friendship.
