Author
An author is generically "one who writes".That writing typically takes the form of a book, but could also be a generic category for those writing a screenplay (referred to as a screenwriter), a stageplay (referred to as a playwright), or even a piece of music (referred to as a songwriter).
Wikipedia expands this definition (borrowing from copyright law) to include the creator of any piece of work, which could include art (paintings/sculptures) or even photography.
