Do you ever wonder why you were born in Topeka,  Kansas—Omaha,  Nebraska—Flagstaff, Arizona—or wherever  it  is  that you  came  from? Or maybe you wonder why you were born on the very  day—at  the  exact  hour, minute  and  second that you came into the world.

I sure have.

In  fact,  I  wonder  why  God  gave  me  the parents He did—and the job my Daddy has—and why the winters here are so cold and windy! To be honest, I wonder about a whole bunch of things—especially since we moved  to a  little  town called Shine, Wisconsin, this past summer. I wonder about that stuff all the time . . . or what it would be like if things were different. But they aren’t.

I was  super  happy  to  hear  that we were going  to  live  in  the  same  town  as my  favorite aunt—Aunt Ella. She’s my Mom’s sister and the nicest,  kindest,  most  creative  person  and  the best  cook  I’ve  ever met.  She  always  says  that she takes “quite a shinin’ ” to me, too.

The  truth  is  that my  whole  life  has  been topsy-turvy ever since we moved to Shine. It’s not just my house and neighborhood that changed. I got a brand-new school with new teachers that do things new ways. And the kids in Shine—well, we didn’t take a “shinin’ ” to each other one little bit. Do you
know how terrible that can be for a little girl?
